Change to Branch Services – Lobbies are closed

Update 3.21.2020 – Spirit of Alaska Federal Credit Union is protecting the health and safety of our membership and doing our part to minimize the spread of COVID-19. To best follow the guidance of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the State of Alaska, we are making the following changes in our branches:

Branch lobbies are closed
Drive-ups at Geist and Johansen branches are now full service
Walk-up Teller in Johansen branch entry now available

All of our branches remain open with normal operating hours. Spirit of Alaska is actively monitoring COVID-19 pandemic reports. Any decisions to re-open our lobbies will appropriately prioritize the safety of our employees and community.

Spirit of Alaska FCU offers many options for members to access their accounts online, over the phone, and at our branches. Every effort will be taken to minimize wait times at the Drive-ups, Johansen Walk-up Teller or over the phone through additional staffing, and service machines and canisters are being sanitized regularly throughout the day. Shared Branching may be available through other participating credit unions.

24/7 Online & Mobile Account Access

  • Please take advantage of accessing your accounts through Online Banking at home.
  • Our Mobile Banking App is available for iOS and Android smartphones. View account balances and transfer funds from your phone. (Online Banking must be activated first on your account.)
  • Try our new app, CardValet, which provides real-time transaction alerts and account balances.
  • Remote Deposit Capture is available through the Sprig app. Deposit checks with Sprig by taking a picture on your phone.

Lending

  • On any loan application, our loan officers are equipped to work remotely with members who have access to a scanner, computer, email and printer.
  • You can apply for any of our lending products on this website, and we will contact you within 1 business day.
  • Our consumer loan officers can take your application over the phone at 907-459-5970.
  • Not equipped with a home office? Pick up a paper application from the Geist or Johansen Drive-ups. After completing the application, fax it to 907-459-5986, email it to cloans@spiritofak.com, or drop off the paper app at any Night Drop or Drive-up.

Call Center & ATT Line

  • Monday – Friday, 10am – 6pm & Saturday, 10am – 4pm
  • Call Center – 907-459-5900 or toll-free 1-800-478-1949
  • The Automated Telephone Teller line is a great option for completing transactions and is available at 907-459-5959 or toll-free at (800) 459-5967.
  • If call volumes increase in our call center, members may experience slightly longer call waiting times.

Johansen Branch

  • Full Service Drive-up, Monday – Friday, 10am – 6pm & Saturday, 10am – 4pm
  • The Walk-up Teller is available in the ATM vestibule.
  • ATM Check Depository
  • Night Drop will be checked & deposits processed throughout the day

Geist Branch

  • Full Service Drive-up, Monday – Friday, 10am – 6pm
  • ATM Check Depository
  • Night Drop will be checked & deposits processed throughout the day

Gillam Branch (Lending Departments)

  • ATM Check Depository
  • Night Drop will be checked & deposits processed throughout the day
  • Because the Gillam branch does not have a drive-up, we will not be able to serve members in person at the Gillam Branch

Adjustments to Service

The following adjustments will need to be made with our lobbies closed:

  • Opening a new membership: Begin your application online. After receiving the application, we will contact you and make arrangements to finish the process at the Johansen Walk-up Teller.
  • Please contact our Call Center if you need to access your Safe Deposit Box at the Johansen Branch.
  • Coin Machine service has been suspended.
  • Debit and credit card replacements can be ordered by calling 907-459-5900. Cards can be picked up at our Johansen or Geist branches at the Drive-up or Walk-up Teller.

We appreciate your membership and understanding as we take these necessary precautionary measures.

 

Proactive Response in our Branches

In response to growing concern on the possible impact of COVID-19 coronavirus in Alaska, our branches are taking proactive, preventative measures as recommended by the Center for Disease Control (CDC) and other official agencies.

  1. Providing hand sanitizer and tissues in all branches to employees (as supplies are available in our market).
  2. We continue to communicate with our employees on a daily basis to use appropriate safety measures in line with CDC recommendations.
  3. Employees may be limiting physical contact with members when not necessary.

The CDC has published guidance for workplace, homes and schools to help protect our community.

We understand many of our members are currently or will be avoiding public places. Through our call center and e-Services, Spirit of Alaska FCU offers many options for members to access their accounts from home, providing uninterrupted service to meet your financial needs.

These tips will help you be prepared to conduct your business in your home or on your phone.

Online & Mobile Account Access

  • Enroll in e-Teller, our Online Banking platform to access your accounts, statements and documents from a home computer 24 hours a day.
  • After enrolling as an e-Teller user, download the Spirit of Alaska Mobile App to view account balances and transfer funds on your phone. (Available to download for iOS and Android phones)

  • Make loan payments through e-Teller.

Shared Branching

  • If you are a member of more than one credit union, utilize Shared Branching to accomplish multiple transactions in one stop.

Other Tips

  • Keep some cash on hand and look into a back-up credit card in case of emergencies.
  • Consider a checking account with a free debit card. You can pay for purchases and access cash without coming into a branch.
  • Consider using the drive-through at the Geist and Johansen locations.
  • Inquire if your employer offers direct deposit instead of physical checks.

Update to the New e-Teller Timeline

Updated 3.18.2020 – Spirit of Alaska is looking forward to providing an updated online banking experience, and our goal is to provide a smooth transition for our membership. In pursuit of this goal, and in light of recent events surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic, implementation of the New e-Teller will be moved to the fall of 2020.

Be advised: Spam and Social Engineering Attempts using COVID-19

The Federal Trade Commission is advising that scammers are attempting to take advantage of the COVID-19 pandemic. Be aware of fake websites, fake emails or fake text messages, all of which will attempt to get your personal information through sympathetic or fear-based messages. Read warnings from the FTC.

  • Be aware that emails claiming to be from the CDC may be fake.
  • Ignore online offers for unproven treatments, vaccinations, or cures.
  • Never click on a link in a text or email if you are unsure of its origin. Always make a phone call to the appropriate entity whenever possible.
  • Watch for strange email attachments, requests to donate to victims, and investment opportunities.

In any email communication, Spirit of Alaska FCU will provide an option to copy-and-paste any links or website recommendations, so you know you are accessing the correct website. We will never ask for personal information over email.
