Spirit of Alaska Credit Union is seeking a detail-oriented and member-focused Business Loan Specialist to support our Business Lending team. In this role, you will play a vital part in the commercial lending process by coordinating loan origination, processing, closing, funding, and servicing activities. - Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; college degree preferred.
- Prior experience in loan servicing, loan processing, or a financial institution environment preferred. Relevant education, including an associate’s or bachelor’s degree in business, finance, accounting, or a related field, may be considered in lieu of experience.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with a member-focused mindset.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook), with the ability to quickly learn new systems and technologies.
- Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines.

- Job Duties:
- Commercial Loan Processing & Closing
- Coordinate and facilitate the commercial loan process from approval through funding and boarding. Review loan approvals, underwriting conditions, and supporting documentation to determine required documentation and closing conditions.
- Order and track third-party reports required for loan approvals, including appraisals, title policies, environmental reports, and other due diligence documentation.
- Review credit approvals, loan requests, and supporting documentation to determine required loan documentation and collateral requirements.
- Prepare loan documents and ensure proper perfection of collateral securing business loan requests.
- Assist with loan closings and funding activities as directed by lending officers.
- Verify, validate, and board loan information accurately within credit union systems following closing.
- Process collateral filings and documentation with appropriate agencies and third parties to ensure security interests are properly recorded.
- Coordinate payment of fees and expenses related to loan documentation, collateral perfection, and third-party services. Fund, board, verify, and validate loan data within the core system following loan closing.
- Loan Servicing & Portfolio Administration
- Maintain organized electronic and physical loan and collateral files in accordance with regulatory and credit union requirements.
- Monitor loan covenants and financial reporting requirements, proactively following up with members to ensure compliance with loan agreements.
- Perform loan maintenance transactions, payment processing, transfers, and account updates within core processing systems.
- Process loan payoff requests, verify satisfaction of loan obligations, and prepare documentation necessary for collateral releases.
- Assist with ongoing portfolio management and administrative support for the Business Lending department.
- Member Service & Relationship Support
- Deliver exceptional service to business members by responding to inquiries promptly, professionally, and accurately.
- Serve as a resource regarding business lending products and services, helping members understand available financing options.
- Coordinate with members and lending officers to obtain documentation required for loan applications and closings.
- Support business development efforts by assisting lending officers with relationship-building and member outreach activities.
- Assist with coverage of the loan lobby by greeting members, answering questions, directing inquiries, and supporting lending staff to ensure a positive member experience and efficient branch operations.
- Meet with mortgage members as needed to assist with mortgage-related requests.
- Compliance & Professional Development
- Maintain current knowledge of credit union policies, procedures, and applicable federal and state regulations governing commercial and business lending.
- Ensure compliance with internal controls, lending policies, and regulatory requirements.
- Participate in training and professional development opportunities to enhance job knowledge and performance.
- Additional Responsibilities
- Perform other duties and special projects as assigned to support departmental and organizational objectives.
