Instant Issue cards are cards that are created at the branch. You don’t have to wait for your card to come in the mail! These cards can be customized with a picture from the credit union catalogue or customized with your own picture (upon pre-approval). Instant Issue Cards are un-embossed, meaning they have no raised letters.
Prior to using your card, you must call 1-800-992-3808 to activate it. The call must come from within the U.S. If you have questions, please contact member services at (907) 459-5900 during Spirit of Alaska business hours.
If you receive your card at one of our Spirit of Alaska FCU branches, the card will work the next business day (this does not include Sundays or holidays) after 9 AM.
If you get your card in the mail, the card will work once you call the number on the face of the card to activate it.

It really depends on the merchant. Some merchants clear the transaction within hours of the purchase, some can take 3-5 days.
You can view your debit card transaction holds through online banking.
