Innovative Green Technology
We are committed to innovation and green technologies, such as solar panels at two of our branches. Our archives are completely stored electronically, and we regularly communicate and share documents electronically with members and ourselves. There are still banks in Fairbanks with their basements and closets full of bankers’ boxes. Read more here.

Field of Membership
Credit Unions operate through a charter that defines our “field of membership”. You can become a Spirit of Alaska member if you qualify as any of the following:
- Any person who lives, works, or worships within the Fairbanks North Star Borough.
- Employees and students of public, private and parochial schools, high schools, and institutions of higher learning north of the Alaska Range.
- Persons retired as pensioners or annuitants from the above employment.
- Alumni of colleges and universities located within the field of membership of this credit union; members of their immediate families; and organizations of such persons.
- Members of the Golden Valley Electric Association.
- Immediate family members of current credit union members.

Can I open my account online?
Yes! Our online account opening process is fully online, you don’t have to come into a branch! We verify your identity through IDpal, our online account opening partner.

Am I eligible to join?
Any person who lives, works, or worships within the Fairbanks North Star Borough is eligible to join the credit union. Employees and students of public, private and parochial schools, high schools, and institutions of higher learning north of the Alaska Range are also eligible to join.
In addition, persons retired as pensioners or annuitants from the above employment; alumni of colleges and universities located within the field of membership of this credit union; members of their immediate families; and organizations of such persons also qualify.

How can I become a member?

If you would like, you can also apply by mail, fax, or in person. Just print out our switch kit here. You can mail, fax, or bring it into one of our branches.
After we receive your documents you will need to come into one of our branches, or make special arrangements, to make your initial deposit and verify your identity. Please contact us if you have additional questions.
